Lindsey Vonn, a former World Cup ski racer and Olympian, recently came under fire from some of her Instagram followers and the media for swimsuit photos she posted. I follow her and saw one of the photos earlier this week and was overjoyed that it was not air brushed! It was refreshing to see the reality of life that is so often edited out to create an unrealistic perception of perfection.
Well, today, she posted about the photos and it was heartbreaking to read because she talks about being slammed for the way she looks. I scrolled through some of the comments and was horrified by some of the nasty things that were said.
She notes in her post that sometimes the comments hurt but that she is proud of who she is and all that her body has allowed her to achieve. Lindsey Vonn, an incredible athlete, an Olympian and business partner with Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson, was hurt by the nasty comments. You see, everyone, even the Lindsey Vonn's of the world are impacted by the negativity that can occur on social media. No one is immune.
We can't control how others behave, only how we behave and how we respond. The negativity isn't about you! As much as you think it is, it's not. Circle back to the It's You and Not Me post from several weeks ago. Hold fast to what you believe, how you feel, and what you want. Negative comments will come and go in life but they don't define you and never will. You are the author of your life, don't let anyone else write it for you.
