Compliments. Compliments are 100% free and can range from life-changing moments to giving you a boost in your day. Compliments are powerful messages whether they are being given or received. (I'll focus on receiving compliments in another post.) There is no doubt though that giving and receiving compliments are mutually beneficial gifts. Is there a better gift out there that each and every one of us has access to? I don't think so.
The act of giving someone a compliment is a sincere gesture sending a message of gratitude or appreciation. Giving a compliment makes you present and aware of what is going on around you. Appreciating what you are experiencing. Being in the moment is what it's all about right?! So why not voice your appreciation to someone when you experience it? In fact, giving a compliment is found to increase general happiness and well being. It's like the gift that keeps on giving.
During the holiday season as we frantically try to find the right gifts for our loved ones and those who support us in our communities, consider making it a point each day to give someone a genuine compliment. I'm not saying that you should stop giving compliments after the holiday season is over. Rather, pay attention to it right now and create the habit so that it becomes a natural and frequent occurrence.
As our bank accounts dwindle and cash is flying out the door, a compliment is something you can give to someone free. So this season and beyond, consider giving the gift that keeps on giving and give a compliment.
